Stray Siamese Cat Found On The Street With A Note On Her Collar

Violet is a stray Siamese cat who was found in Illinois with a note tied to her collar. Animal rescuers brought her to the Effingham County Animal Shelter and immediately realized that the stray cat used to have a home. When the rescuers opened the note, they discovered a heartbreaking truth about her past.

It read (corrected for spelling): “Bye Violet. I think that name chose you. I wish I could keep you. Bye Violet, I hope you get a good owner. To owner: Please take good care of her. By the way, I named her. Thank you! Love, Lacey.”

The loving letter was appeared to have been written by a child because purple marker scrawl filled up every inch of the paper. There, the child’s plea for her beloved pet to find a good home and a good owner.

The note broke hearts across the shelter and made everyone burst into tears. “When we pulled it off and read it, it just tugs at your heartstrings,” Vanessa Skavlem, an animal control officer at the shelter, told The Dodo. “I just envision some child loving this thing, and knowing that they can’t keep it.”

Sadly, when the shelter scanned the cat for a microchip, it came back negative. There was no way to contact Violet’s previous owners, so the shelter posted a photo of Violet and the note on social media, with the hope of finding her a forever home.

“She’s very, very sweet and loves to be scratched on the head,” Michaela Muzzy, Violet’s rescuer, wrote on Facebook.

Thankfully, a kind woman named “Cindy Murray” was touched to the post after she had read it on Facebook. “You could tell it was written by a child,” Murray told The Dodo. “You could tell she loved this cat but she just wasn’t able to keep her anymore and she wants her to go to a good home.”

Murray had the day off work, so she decided to go to the shelter to meet Violet and take her home. When Violet realized that she finally found a good home, she began to relax, and has since been purring constantly. She’s been purring and she seems very happy,” Murray said.

Murray only hopes to reach out to the little girl who loved her cat so much and let her know that her beloved cat is very happy. “I thought about doing a little video to this girl saying, ‘Dear Lacey, I adopted your beautiful Violet. She’s going to have a wonderful life — full of treats, snuggles and everything we can give her.’”
